How to Practice Vayu Mudra for Instant Anxiety Relief
The Vayu Mudra works by balancing the air element (Vayu) in the body—one of the five core elements in Ayurveda and yogic philosophy. When the air element becomes excessive, it can lead to restlessness, overthinking, nervous energy, and yes—anxiety.
To practice the mudra:
- Sit in a comfortable, relaxed position—cross-legged, in a chair, or even standing if needed.
- Place the tip of your index finger at the base of your thumb.
- Gently press your thumb over your index finger, applying soft, steady pressure.
- Keep the other three fingers extended and relaxed.
- Now close your eyes, take a deep breath, and begin to focus on the space between your eyebrows (your third eye). If that’s difficult, simply bring your awareness to the tip of your nose.
- Inhale deeply, allowing your stomach to expand outward—imagine a string attached to your navel, gently pulling forward with each breath.
- Exhale slowly, grounding your energy.
- Do this for 5 to 10 minutes, and allow the shift to happen.
